Mosaic Monday: Hatchling surprise!

My husband and daughter found a couple of cocoons near our garlic beds a few weeks ago.  We all assumed they would be butterflies or moths.  We didn’t know nor did we look up the type of cocoon.  Alas, they hatched this saturday!  My husband actually ran into the house shouting, “The cocoons hatched!  They are praying mantises!”  It was so cute to see my daughter’s reaction.  She was just as excited and ran outside as fast as she could.  I am so happy that my daughter even though she has gotten more girlie (this was the day of her ballet recital), she still has interest in the natural world.  Check out the mosaic below for the cutest little praying mantis hatchlings!

Wow! I always wondered what those pods were. I’ve seen them around our house, too. Interesting. So glad you got to see the babies!

It was pretty exciting! I may have to transfer some to my garden. I know I saw an adult in our strawberry patch last year.
