Method Press Issue 03 has launched!

Help Kickstart Method Press!

Hi, we’re method press-a brand new magazine created this year!!

We are entirely volunteer-run. We use our time to create stimulating material which features both well known and lesser known artists of our time. You can see our first and second issues online here:

Method Press is one of a kind because of our vision and community. We work globally from Australia to Portland to Brooklyn, and all on a volunteer basis.  Our mission statement sheds some light on the type of material we like to make for you:

Method Press is an art-filled idea magazine celebrating lo-fi thinkers. It is a consensus-based, not-for-profit, member run/owned, collectively managed magazine madly tracking down art as it moans to record its progress in history. We are not only interested in the making of art but in the art in the making.

We work hard to provide you with stimulating, rare & ad sparse information presented in an inquisitively creative manner at an accessible price hoped to meet a wider audience. We love what we do; but we need the money to do it. Our readership is not yet at the place that it needs to be and so our finances are suffering.

These are some specific things we need money for:

1.  We want to pay, first and foremost, our writers. They are the lifeblood of our magazine and deserve to be paid for their time and skill.

2. Sending out copies of the magazine to artists whom we have featured. I hate the idea of making them pay to get a copy. Don’t you? We are also interested in sending samples to your favorite local hair salon, coffee shop, wine bar-because we think they would like what we make.

3. We would seriously benefit from having better software. For example, something that we can all make changes on individually. Currently, I either email or skype poor Ashleigh telling her to make changes such as “can you change the word on page 32 second paragraph down” which is totally time consuming and archaic. I just know there are better uses of our time. : )

Here is a word from our Design Team Leader, Ashleigh Coyner

“Method Press is an amazing collaboration across the globe.  I met these lovely ladies through the Female Photographers of Etsy team and we each have different backgrounds in design.  To keep us better connected and on the same page, it would be helpful if we each had the same design software.  I would love for my design team to have access to Microsoft Publisher.  Kickstarter is a platform that could help us achieve that goal and as Dr. Seuss said, ‘Soar to high heights’.  Thank you for taking the time to read our magazine!”

Editor, Sara Miller

“Method Press team members need software! Our process is a little bumpy right now because not everyone has the same computer programs. For example, as an editor, I like to be able to add comments when I’m proofreading–to clarify why I changed something, ask a question about what something means, or insert my opinion about what I think should be elaborated on or left out. I use the “comment” function in Microsoft Word, which would work perfectly… if only everyone had Word! ”

& Marketing Mavern, Marico Fayre:

What we make is important because of the content we cover, and the ideas that we spread. We hope that you’ll help the cause of supporting independent artists & female photographers around the globe and helping a small independent magazine get on its feet. If money is not your specialty, please spread the word. We’d love for you to tell our story so we can tell more stories!

With muscles,

Katie King/ For Method Press

I have been up to something…

Can you guess what that might be?  Late nights, constant emails, flickr searching, publisher crunching, photoshop doodling, and totally neglecting my husband…

I found an awesome group of ladies (most are photographers as well!) on Etsy and thanks to Katie , we started a magazine!  You can read all about it here and feel free to subscribe and become a fan.
